Flash procedure

To flash the WZR-HP-G300NH2, follow the same procedure as the wzr-hp-g300h, but use 02:AA:BB:CC:DD:1A for the static arp entry. Download the latest image here: Stable release ( Flashing Backfire to this router will brick the router ( solid red light ) as this version has a new ethernet driver ). As noted under forum post #452 current fimwares sometimes don't show the correct LED status (due to a bug). This means the flash might appear to have failed (solid red light) but instead was successful. After any flash it is therefore recommended to follow the normal first login instructions regardless of LED status.

On the WZR-300HP, Pin 1 does not supply +3.3V. There is a 0 K resistor right next to pin one which can be bridged to complete the +3.3V circuit. Unfortunately, it is covered in solder now, but I believe that it was labeled R347 on the silk screen. Once this is completed, the serial console will function. If you are using a USB TTL cable, this may not be necessary.

Two flashes of diag every few seconds

* If you see the diag light flash twice about every 2-3 seconds, it means the flashing did not work properly. I did a TFTP recovery using the factory firmware ( I count exactly 10 seconds from power on before sending the TFTP File ), and it flashed. ( remember to wait 5-6 minutes after a tftp recovery ).

Revision A1A0 and WZR-HP-G302H A1A0 (Japanese variant)

WZR-HP-G302H is Japanese market name for WZR-HP-G300NH2, and seems to have slightly different WiFi chip, Atheros AR9283-AL1A. It is very probable that WZR-HP-G302H A1A0 and WZR-HP-G302H A1A0 have an identical motherboar inside, as both have dual 16MiB SPI flash chips just like WZR-HP-AG300H, with erase size of 64k. This means default WZR-HP-G300NH2 jffs2 image will not work correctly (one can fix this by modifying target/linux/ar71xx/image/Makefile, search for WZR-HP-G300NH2 profile and change fs_128k to fs_64k). WZR-HP-G302H A1A0 motherboard silk-print label says:

Similarly to Japanese variant of WZR-HP-G300NH, A1A0 comes with locked buffalo u-boot v1.08 (based on U-Boot 1.1.4 for BUFFALO AIRSTATION, PB93), see http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/buffalo/wzr-hp-g300h#locked.u-boot.too.short.time.tftp.window for details. Furthermore, this newest buffalo u-boot BS does not even provide serial console at boot time! But TFTP "blind" flash to OpenWRT was possible when accept_open_rt_fmt=1 was set (tested and confirmed ok with r31678 squashfs, try it at your own risk). Also, it is possible to circumvent serial console lock by setting force_uart variable in a similar manner to accept_open_rt_fmt.

In addition, proper fw_env.config for uboot-envtools for A1A0 variant is:

Revision B0A0 (marketed as N300 HIGHPOWER GIGABIT / WZR-300HP)

This board, marked WZR-HP-G302HV2 Rev: A3, is nearly identical to the other revisions, and the same image appears to flash successfully. A visual inspection shows a different DDR2 module (both Nanya, but it looks like the previous chip was EOL'd), various capacitors in different positions, and a coil on the back of the board is covered in epoxy now.
