Terminal Upgrade Process

If you don't have a GUI (LuCI) available, you can alternatively upgrade via the command line. There are two command line methods for upgrading:

  • sysupgrade
  • mtd

Note: It is important that you put the firmware image into the ramdisk (/tmp) before you start flashing.

sysupgrade

  • Login as root via SSH on 192.168.1.1, then enter the following commands:

cd /tmp
wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/XXX/xxx.abc
sysupgrade /tmp/xxx.abc

mtd

If sysupgrade does not support this router, use mtd.

  • Login as root via SSH on 192.168.1.1, then enter the following commands:

Numbers 0-3 are Ports 1-4 as labeled on the unit, number 4 is the Internet (WAN) on the unit, 5 is the internal connection to the router itself. Don't be fooled: Port 1 on the unit is number 3 when configuring VLANs. vlan0 = eth0.0, vlan1 = eth0.1 and so on.

Opening the case

Note: This will void your warranty!

To open the case:

  1. Remove the antennas.
  2. Remove the bottom cover.
  3. Unscrew the phillips screw what got visible after removing the bottom cover.
  4. Unscrew the 2 nuts of the antenna connectors
  5. Push a little bit the antenna connectors into the housing and back. This will free 2 rubber gaskets at the antenna connectors.
  6. Remove the gaskets and then push the antenna connectors inside again. This will nicely remove the whole PCB out of the housing.

Solder a header or direct wires to the contacts marked as TX,RX and GND on the picture below.
Use a serial adapter with TTL 3.3V signal levels. Not a standard RS-232 port. This will damage the serial port of the device due the high voltage levels.
Connect the TX pin of the serial adapter with the RX pin of the PCB, and the RX pin of the serial adapter with the TX pin of the PCB.
