This is a TL-WR741ND v1 but will only accept firmware with Rosewill vendor bytes (in the file header). OpenWRT currently does not have those bytes. DD-WRT has everything we need, so we use it to bootstrap.
Serial Connector Soldering is the only way to recover, be careful! THERE IS NO WAY TO TFTP OVER ETHERNET.
- Flash dd-wrt: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/07-20-12-r19519/rosewill-rnx-n150rt/factory-to-ddwrt.bin this image has Rosewill RNX-N150RT vendor bytes which OpenWRT currently lacks.
- Download tl-wr741nd_v1_v2-webrevert.bin from http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=521071#521071 You must be logged in to see it. Be sure that you unrar the file!. The SHA1 checksum of "tl-wr741nd_v1_v2-webrevert.bin" (inside the .rar) is 537d38fc644d905ba0b6f37038d58884952175a6. You can find the file on another website and verify that the checksum matches.
- Flash "tl-wr741nd_v1_v2-webrevert.bin". This converts your router to a TP-Link. I am unsure if this step is necessary, but I don't want to be the one to try not doing it and brick my device.
- Flash OpenWRT version 12.09-rc1 or later: http://downloads.openwrt.org/attitude_adjustment/12.09-rc1/ar71xx/generic/openwrt-ar71xx-generic-tl-wr741nd-v1-squashfs-factory.bin . (-factory firmware NOT -sysupgrade)
Please add native rosewill support to OpenWRT! See Ticket https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/11693
