The SOM9331 is a Single Board Computer (SBC) with 8MiB of NOR flash and 64MiB of ram. It is made by the Chinese manufacturer OpenEmbed and comes in two form factors: a System on Module (SOM) with castellated pins, and an SBC with the hardware peripherals broken out; including 3x100Mb Ethernet ports, USB to UART for debug and a USB Host.

SOM9331 Module

OpenWrt support

SOM9331 Ships with OpenWRT v12.09 Attitude Adjustment.

Cannot find the vendor's stock firmware online but Barrier Breaker v14.07 can be found here.

Supporting activities

There is a github that has a patch for the SOM9331 running OpenWRT v12.09 AA.

It adds the new target profile to buildroot and enabled the LED's to work with the ethernet.

This has not yet been tested.

Experimental firmware

OpenWRT is confirmed to run on SOM9331 by using the TP-Link TL-WR703N Version of the build.

Opening the case

ATTENTION!

This board does not come in a package, it only comes with a plastic base separated by copper spacers and screwed together. Therefore it is really easy to take it apart.

All you will need is a Phillips head screw driver.

Use the Following steps to remove the base:

    1. Remove the four screws from the top of the device, using your Phillips head screwdriver.
    2. Remove the plastic casing from the bottom.

You now have access to the front and back of the pcb.

The SBC version of the module has a Silicon Labs CP2104 USB to TTL serial converter chip built in.
